I would approach Mr. Wiley by saying hello and calling him by his name and extend my hand to him. I would hold his hand gently when conversing and pat his hand,to help reduce him trying to hug or touch. When the opportunity to release his hand arises, I would gently pat his hand a release it. While conversing, I would ask him to tell me about his wife, and then restate what he says and ask him questions, such as what color hair did she have, or where did you meet her at. While conversing I would maintain eye contact, keep my tone of voice positive, and smile. I may pat his hand while talking to show empathy. I would continue to reminisce with Mr. Wiley. When ending the conversation, I would thank Mr. WIley for sharing his stories with me and that I enjoyed our talk.
