What is Dementia? Dementia is a loss of mental function in tow or more areas such as language, memory, visual and spatial abilities, or judgement severe enough to intefere with daily life.
What is Alzheimer's disease? AD is the most common cause of dementia, affecting as many as 4 milllion Americans. AD is a degenerative disease that attacks the brain, begins and gradually progresses at a variable rate. AD results in impaired memory, thinking, and behavior and can last from 3 to 20 years from the time of onset symptoms.
What treatments are available? There are currently four drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treating AD symptoms Cognex, Aricept,Exelon, and Reminy1.
