The one activity that I have conducted as an Activity Assistant which worked well is the Sort & Organize activity. This activity gives residents with alzheimer's a chance to participate in an activity that they have done all their lives. We all as a person have sort and organize our possession and things around the house, and conducting an activity that promotes normal routine type task can be easily accepted by the alzheimer's patients. They are willing to take part in the activity because not only are they comfortable doing this task, they will also feel like they are being productive and appreciative. Residents can sort items in purses (for female residents) with monopoly money, papers, buttons, and photos. Monopoly money can be sorted by colors and amount, making piles for each. Buttons can be sorted the same: by color, shapes, and textures. Photos can also be sorted and organized by the type of picture or dates written on the back. By incorporating products that are age appropriate and something that these residents are familiar with, will make the activity a success.
